I have a 94 ram 1500 4x4 with stock 15 in chrome wheels and was wondering what is the biggest tire I can mount on these rims that will clear my stock height suspension?

I was unaware that they ever put 15" wheels on the 94 up Ram. Are you sure they are not 16".

If you do have 16's, I believe the biggest you could go would be 265/75. I wanted to go to 285's when I upgraded my tires and the service guy told me there's something about the regular cab that will not allow the 285's, although the extended cab will accept them.

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram Sport 4x4 Regular Cab, and I put 285/75/16's on it (which are equal to 33's heighthwise) and I have had no problems. They don't bottom out or rub. 285's will fit just fine!

i have a 99 ram 1500 with goodyear wrangler AT/S size 305/70R16 (33x12.50) on stock rims... they fit great, they just barely rub the radius arms at full turn and suspension compressed.

Now you got me wondering whether it's a year difference, or if I was dealing with someone who didn't know any better. I would guess the second because I couldn't understand where the regular cab would lose space from an extended cab in the first place. Another lesson learned again. Don't listen to the guys behind the counter.

Maybe not! Ive got a booklet on the new 2000rams with the off-road package and the dimensions stated here have a difference of about half an inch between the regular cab and quad cab. Not a lot but maybe enough to make a difference. Im not sure if the same holds true for the non off-road equiped trucks or not. I also had a set of 305/70/16`s on a 98 club cab with no problem, but knew a friend who had 285/75/16 BFG`s on a regular cab that rubbed slightley. In reality the 305`s are only a size larger than the 285`s. I had a set of 295 BFG`s and a set of 305 goodyears and they were pretty mech the same size.

I changed out my stock 16in. rims for 15X8 American Racing and put 33/12.50 on it. This was a 96 ext cab. The only place it rubbed was on the left-front-inner fender lining, and only when making a tight U Turn.

Tire size will also be affected by how much your coils have sagged too.

If you do have 16 in. rims, you probably do not want to go above 285s

Of course if you want good off road performance, these tire sizes are probably too big to give you good articulation without a suspension lift.

i've been told you can't put 15 inch rims on 97 or newer rams because of brake caliper clearance... true or rumor??

Unhappy

Ive got a 98 ram 1500 sport with BFG 285's
on my stock rims and they havent rubbed yet.
I have seen a guy in town with the same truck and it had BFG 295's on it and he said it did not rub. (I looked and believe him)

By the clearance that exists between the caliper and wheel on my 98 Ram I don't think 15" wheels will fit. If they do it would be by the narrowest margins.

Rumor. I have a 97 and I have 15x10.5 and they clear the calipers just fine.

Here's a chart that claims to show what large tires fit Rams, either stock or with various lifts:

http://users.choice.net/~sylord/offroad/dodge.htm

The Dakota Mailing List also has a good Tire, Gear and RPM Java calculator that compares 2 different tires at once:

Rufus and others who run 305/70R16s without rubbing, I'm glad to hear it can be done without a suspension lift. I'd been relying on that same chart that HankL posted. It's the same info found on page 56 & 57 in the June 2000 Four Wheeler magazine that was dedicated to tires. It had me convinced 265/75R16 was the biggest I could use without a suspension lift. Although they did say that their info was on the conservative side.

Question

I have a 95 1500....can I fit 33x12.5's under there. not on stock rims of course. Just curious. I thinks that it's like a 305/70r16 metric. Thanks in advance.

Red face

I have the 305 series tires on my truck. They are almost too much. There is a bunch of extra sidewall flex b/c of that much of an oversize. I will go down to 285s when I replace them.

285/75R16s are actually a little taller than the 305/70R16s are. So you'll have more sidewall. As far as I know, most tire manufacturers rate both those sizes as "Load Range D" so the only thing you gain by switching to 285s is a little less tread on the road and a little less weight. Of course the price might be better, too as a hidden bonus.

I have run 285-75r-16 on stock and 16X8 inch rims under all off road conditions and they will not rub under full suspension compression. However on the stock rims the 285's will hit the radious arms under certian conditions..
