I just received my new eletronic ignition kit from Summit,P3690428.The distributer appears to be an upgrade from the last kit I bought a few years ago.The old distributer carried the #3690432,one heavy spring one light.Looks like the typical stock '73-'74 job.The new one carries no part number and seems to have quite a few improvements to it.The vacuum pot and the reluctor, pickup and body look like the only parts that are the same.It uses two light springs, redesigned flyweights on a plate with adjustments for setting mechanical advance with a positive stop. The flyweights are flater, shaped different and mounted with teflon and "c" clips.THe top of the distributer shaft is made of brass where the reluctor mounts. The bottom part of the shaft is steel with a steel coller instead of the old nylon style. The key at the bottom tapers up the shaft instead of a straight cut eliminating a potential stress point.I dont no if this is a new distributer out,or Im just behind the times. It sure looks sweet!Oh yea the box was marked with the date 02 29 00.Cant wait to try it out.

My guess is that MP used to use production distributors in their MP kit. But today they can't do that since modern engines do not use distributors anymore. Therefore they had to go to the aftermarket to get the MP distributors made. Sounds like the aftermarket builds better stuff than the UAW ever could.

There's a good possibility that the new distributors are made by Accel. They were a supplier to M-P last year.

I hope whoever is making them that they do a better job machining the reluctors.
