This is how it went..
First pass: Burn - out was tricky, didn't realize there was water all the way up to the starting line, dumped the clutch at 3000 spun really bad, had to back pedal, got back on it. et 17.09 Second pass: really good burn-out - not as hard as I thought it would be to get the hang of, dumped the clutch at 2500 and that carb let me down. It stumbled but came right back, shifted at 4500 getting the hang of speed shifting. et 14.60 Third pass: Now I'm going for it. Really good burnout, dumped the clutch at 4000, strung the gears out and crossed the line in 3rd. Big smoke plume at the end of the track. I blew a freeze plug out. DAMN! - and I had to drive it home. To add insult to injury- no time slip. We have a new system at the track and they have quirks every now and then - just has to happen to me. Sorry dudes.... gonna have to wait a week or two for those 12 second passes. ART |

Ok MopART.
Bad luck with the freeze plugs. And messy... :-( 14.6seconds with a bog. So which carburetor do You have? Was the bog just because of too little rpms, or what? If low rpms result in a bog and high rpms get the tires spinning out of control, start practising with clutch slipping when You leave. Don´t just let the pedal jump free when leaving, rather ease the vehicle moving by "feel" and then do the quick moves later down the track when shifting to higher gears ;-) Are Your heads ported? If everything is right the combo should pump over 400hp. So the current 14.6 is too slow. How about the trap speed? That way You can calculate the horsepower, a bad launch won´t affect the trap speed that much, I think. Just my 2 cent |

It's an old Holley 750 vac secondary center squirter. >>>Was the bog just because of too little rpms, or what? Not too sure.. think it's the carb. This carb has been giving me fits ever since I got it. >>Are Your heads ported? If everything is right the combo should pump over 400hp. So the current 14.6 is too slow. Heads are stock 587's, cam is MP .484 lift, Weiand dual plane intake. >>How about the trap speed? fastest pass was 105.80 mph on the 17.09 run and I was shifting at about 4800 rpm, using all four gears until that last pass. For some reason my mph didn't print on my time slip from the 14.60 run. I didin't expect any record-breaking runs, or any of the numbers on my time slips to make much sense. This is the first time to really run the car - not to mention the first time with 4 spd. I was trying to learn the burnout and speed shift too. I had alot going on and it's just gonna take some time to get good at it. I just hope the 340 is okay after blowing that plug. thanks, ART |

The good news is 105 mph is good enough for
high 12's. I ran 13.1's at 103.5 in a heavy car. I have never had a freeze plug fall out. I don't know what to make of it. All you need is sticky tires for the track. Its alot easier to feather an auto out of the hole on street tires. I won't be to the track until June. My car has been in pieces for over a year. I'm lookin for 11's. Good luck |

MopART:
105.80mph is great news. You´ve got the power to reach Your goal of low ET:s. You just have to make all that power to the ground. You´ll be there, for sure! Good luck ;- |
