Try about 3620 to 3780 depending on the options it had, they had heavy bumpers on them. Gut all the weight you can out of the thing. Make sure you get the undercoating to I have seen as much as 75 lbs in just that.

Yeah, 1970 duster doors have no steel re-enforcing beam, 1975 feather dusters and dart lites have aluminum trunk lids, some are rumored to have aluminum fenders, hoods and door skins. The chassis frame book says they have aluminum used extensively, but I know they all have the trunk lid for sure. Also the steel beams behind the bumpers can be removed.

Well, Im 39,(he said reluctantly). You gotta ask the tough questions don't ya.I bought my first duster in 77, it was a 74 Gold Duster 318. I've had every year of duster from 70 to 76. I have always built up a small block, but I am real partial to slant six's and 440's. I figure the 318 is a real good street motor for every day driving and pounding, they last and they are cheap to find. However, as I look in my driveway I notice the 360's have taken over, I have 3 4x4's, two 360's one 318, and a motorhome, 360, and a 3.5 Intrepid. If I seem to have answers to some questions, it's because I bought the speed secret and chassis books. I already knew a bunch of the stuff in there, but I also learned alot, and there is some stuff I know that they neglected to print, I'll stick my 2 cents in if I can.

Check and see how much undercoating there is on the bottom of the car. Inside the fenders, rear fenderwells, A propane torch and a putty knife will get it. There can be as much as 75 to 100 lbs, of undercoating.
Anything that looks heavy can be lightend, The inner structures of the bumpers can be cut, those bumpers on the 73 up Dusters were heavy. |

I bought a new 70 Duster 340 new in april 1970. It was a 4 speed with the only option being a vinyl top. The car tipped the scales at Carlsbad at 3240 with a full tank. I have also owned, bought new 1968 Plymouth GTX with a 440. Just remember if you are going to race a Mopar make sure you have at least 50 psi oil pressure at IDLE!! My first drag car was a 1950 Plymouth stock.
