I have a 88-89 A-727. Do all year torque converters fit this year tranny? Will a B&M Transpak work on this tranny? Does anybody have experience with the Mopar Performance shift kits? Any advice is appreciated.

The B&M trans pak say's not to install on lock up types if your not sure about yours you can look at the input shaft and if the spline does not extend clear to the end it's a lock up trans

Sorry missed the other part it is very year dependent on the shift kits and torque converters if you got yours from a salvage yard as I did you need to make a ID of it before you get much of anything for it.

Joe Bump, From what you tell me it's a non-lockup, great. I know that Mopar Performance shows basically one torque converter for all years of the 727. Now I'm wondering if all B&M's converters will work, why or why not. You mention ID'ing the tranny, I assume you mean by serial # or casting #. thanks for any help.

My brother and I just did the trans pak in my 727 this weekend. The instructions are are set up by groups of years it can be done with out knowing but it would make it alot easyer.
The same for the rebuild kits.
The torque converter you need to count the splines on the input shaft of your trans so you know if it is 19 or 24.

Did it again

If you take the number off the side of the case that are stamped in and post them. Normally one of the others can look it up for you and tell you exactlly what should be in the case that was what I did.

Todd, the lockup input splines are 23 teeth and the non L/U input splines are 24 tooth. In 88 and 89 the only lockup 727s made were for passenger car fleet sales and service trannies. If it came out of a truck it should not be a lockup.

txs, thanks. The tranny is out of a truck, and non-lockup. Ordered a 2600 stall convertor and B&M flexplate for it. Got the cooling lines and cooler on order as well. The only thing left is to get the tranny back from the shop and have the driveshaft shortened. thanks for all the advice and info.
