I have a 71 Challenger with rally gauges. The factory tach reads more than double the actual RPM. I have an MSD6AL with the tach adapter but the problem existed before I insalled it. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it because of an electronic ignition conversion? Can the tach be repaired or calibrated? Any help will be appeciated.

My 70 Challenger factory tach never worked very well either. It was slow to respond and not very accurate. I tried every adapter MSD made, and it didn't help. Finally switched to an Autometer that fit in the dash really well. Most people don't even notice the change. It now plugs right into the tach output of the MSD.

Back in 1986 I had a company called Palo Alto Speedometer install a VDO tach drive behind the stock face and it still works flawless. Their number is 415-323-0243 if thier still there.
