What is the effect of a high stall speed converter on mileage?. Without having researched the matter I feel that high stall speed would decrease mileage. Anyone with experience?. OK, I know mileage is not the top priority of a muscle car but with gas costing $4.20 a gallon (here in Sweden) it can't be entirely overlooked. What can be gained by going to a manual trans?

I'm running a slightly modified 360ci. connected to an A999 tranny with lock up converter. Between 9 and 10mpg is all I can get out of it city driving. From talking with some of the people on this site, we came to the conclusion that the 1900/2100 stall speed converter is probably the culprit.
I'm pulling it out in a week or so, in favor of a lower stall speed (stock)converter. I'll post the "new" mpg as soon as I get some readings. -Mike |
