I've got that 273 and am still having trouble performance wise. The heads I am running now are 273 heads that have the bowls blended and gasket matched to a 340 intake. They are killing my performance. The valves are 1.88/1.60 stainless. Question: would a stock set of 360/340 heads fit on the engine. I know that the block must be notched for 2.02's, but what about theses heads with 1.88's. I don't know if the valve centers are the same or not. Remember this block only started with a 3.63 bore and was bored now 30 over. Can someone help me. Also, what's up with the Mopar help line number, did it change. Thanks, Steve.

I'm not sure about the notch with the 1.88's.I'd use a set of the 340-360 heads, but If it were me...I'd look for a good used set of the W-2 econo heads with a manifold,a complete setup that someone "has to get rid of".But if you don't want to go this route(I know you just bought a new intake)Get a set of the 340-360 heads and do the same thing you did to the 273 heads.I still think your header size needs to go to 1 3/4".

I agree with Christopher, The 1.88 intake heads will work on the 273 and yes the 340/360 heads will bolt on. The reason you are loosing performance with your set up is lack of proper flow at the intake port. With the larger intake and small intake port head,(even though they have been worked on), is turbulance caused by even a slight mismatch. The 340/360 heads should work just fine. The racers I've known have used the 273 heads with an aftermarket 273 intake. Also I would use the headers Chris stated.

One more thing about your 273 heads. The ports are smaller and you will have fuel drop out big time and almost no air velocity, this is why the 340/360 heads are better. Make sure your carb. is big enough and the cam (solid lifter I'm guessing) is dialed in and the 273 should rap to 7 grand without much problems. Provided you have the right pistons and rods. Remember with cast pistons and fairly stock rods you will over speed your engine around 6300 rpms.

The tech line phone# is (248)853-7290. And one other thing I forgot to mention,I wouldn't jump right out and put 2.02 intakes in,especially if the 1.88's will fit.I personally don't think there is THAT much of a difference performance wise. There might be at 6800 and up RPM range, but where you are running this engine at,I really don't see the need. The NHRA stockers, both 340 and 360 run the stock valve sizes and they are pretty evenly matched, even with the older 340's getting the bigger valve.Mill the "new" heads to keep your same compression ratio, pocket port them and gasket match the intakes, clean up the exhaust side as well. This is all you should need to do.Remember, this little engine needs to make torque, and torque is what moves the car, especially in a 4 door car like yours.
