Cool

I'm running a set of Mopar Performance cast aluminum valve covers on my '95 Magnum engine. They've been on it since '95 and have never leaked.

The trick is to use the correct gasket. I'd recommend the Mopar Performance HP valve cover gaskets. Use P5249581 for the LA engine and P5249660 for the Magnum engine.

Best of luck with your project.

No personnal experiance, but it has been reported more than once that the supplied bolts are too long, either bottoming out before gaket is compressed or breaking into water jacket, YIKES!!!

I agree with the other guys. Its probably one or both that are causing this condition. If you dont find that either of these helps then you may want to look at the following even though these are much rarer problems. Small cracks around the hole area. You may also want after visually inspecting these for cracks to put a straight edge on the length to see if its warped or there is a high spot around the thru hole area. ALOT of people over tighten the covers and this will cause cracks, distortion, and leaks. Good luck, make sure that you try the others remidies first since they are usually the problem with leaks.......good luck....DAVE

Make sure the gasket lip doesn't hit the intake also. I just put a set on an early 340 motor and had to hit them a lick or two with a bench grinder to clear the intake manifold runners. Had to do the same thing 25 years ago when I put on a set of Cal Custom finned aluminum valve covers. Don't know why they don't just put this clearance in when they make the things.

So long as the valve covers are sitting square on the head, and the bolts are tight, there is absolutely no reason for them to leak.

Thumbs up

I put valve covers on with stock intake and never had a problem. Changed to edlebrock rpm 1500 to 6500 manifold and had big problem. Had to grind covers as they would hit intake and not tighten down properly. Now no problems.Good Luck tim

I bought a set of black cast aluminum valve covers for a 440 back in 95. They never sealed properly I tried varios gasgets and silicons but nothing worked it was as if the valve cover was too wide. The heads are a set off a 72 motor and no other valve cover seems to seal well. So maybe the covers are ok. A buddy has them on his 383 and they seem to seal well. They look good and I plan to put them back on my motor when I swap to some 452 heads.
