I have a '73 727 trans and converter from a van or a motorhome with a 440 that I want to use on a '72 - '74 383. The question is are there any weights on the converter that would throw the balance out? I beleive that these engines were all internally balanced...I think?

I think they stopped making 383's in 71.If I'm not mistaken late 71 383 2BBl's,all 400's and 440's 74 and up had cast cranks. The weights on all the cast crank converters i've seen were right next to the drain plug. They can be knocked off if not needed.

The motor I want to use is definately a 383 (not positive of year) The converter and trans that I want to use came from a motor that had '73 440 on the sticker on the valve cover. I don't think is was messed with (dosen't look like it was ever taken apart. There is a weight on the converter but I am not sure if I should leave it or knock it off.

As far as I know, all 383 motors were internally balanced. Easy way to tell is to look at the front dampner. If it has a balance weight on it then you have an externally balanced motor. If the motor is internally balanced then your convertor won't need any weights on it.
