Question

I was looking at a 340 motor w/edelbrock 650 cfm carb. 340 torker intake, bored .30 over, 10.5 to 1 compression, competition .480/.280 cam. Engine is unassembled, has never been assembled. I am wanting to purchase this, but was wondering how much it is worth, any ideas? He also has, 2.02 J heads w/triple angle valve job, bronze valve guides. How much would the J heads be worth? Any advice would be of great help.

If I had it all here to look at and everyhting looked good and still in good shape and what I wanted, I'd be willing to give the guy $1200.00

But what do I know. Mopar stuff is hard to get around here so I'd be willing to spend more than others would.

How much does the guy want for this stuff??

Thumbs up

Personal opinion....any time you buy a motor you're throwing dice. There are alot of so called experts out there that know all the words but dont know what they mean. Initally it does sound like a good deal as long as its not too hacked. As long as your good with a wrench I say Lay out the cash in front of his face and give him a lower offer and take it right then. If you plan up front that something will need %$#@ing with then you probably wont be too surprised and make out well. If the J heads are just redone completly they may be worth anywhere from 300-500 depending if thats the head you are looking for. FYI....these are the same as the X heads except I believe the chamber volumn is 2 cc bigger. good luck....DAVE.

Thanks Dave and Art for responding. As for your question Art, this guy wants $600.00 for the motor but it has a lot of extra parts, like a motor stand, ARP bolts, new water pump, 7 qt oil pan with high volume oil pump, two sets of valve covers, electronic ignition conversion kit, and $500.00 for the J heads. He also has a 8 3/4 pig w/391 gears, 742 casing for $150 dollars. So I guess this isn't such a bad deal after all?
