I have a 74 Duster with power steering and power brakes. I found a post on how to convert to manual brakes, but nothing on converting to manual steering. I am building a Hot W-2 340 to go in it and will probably need the clearance for headers. Has anyone done this or know how involved this is? Maybe a book,internet site or some where to find out. Any help on header brands that will clear will help. I plan to continue using nitrous so I need big exhaust.

I did this to a '74 Duster, and this is what you need:
1. aluminum manual steering box 2. manual steering column OR: new coupler (splines are different) and lengthen the steering tube about 1.5" Don't trust my memory, measure for the extra length, find a piece of pipe the same diameter and take it to a good welding shop. If your getting a steering box from a junk yard they will all interchange.The only difference is slant six abody boxes have bushings instead of bearings on the sector shaft.you will need to get a 73-76 manual steering pitman arm.67-72's used a common pitman arm for power and manual.Now theres the problem with the steering column.The power box is longer so you can either get a manual column,or swap out the steering shaft.the third option is an adapter.Mopar also sells an adapter so you can use your exsisting setup.I'll ceck around and see if I can find the part number.

You can use auto steering column with manual box if you get coupler from Mancini Racing. $ 200.

Thanks alot for all the help. It sounds much easier than I expected.(well with the coupler)Let me recap to make sure I have it. All I have to get is a manual box, coupler,manual pitman arm and then install. Great!! Thanks again!!
