Question

Does anyone know specs for the ride height
on the rear of a 70 Challenger? Where is this measurement taken?

If I am reading my old service manual correctly, it looks like the front eye of the leaf spring should be 5 inches below the wheel centerline and the top shackle pivot 8 inches above. Looking at all the old pictures, Challengers always seemed to look a little to high in the front, low in the back, to me. Maybe that is why they were always a little unstable at high speeds.

Thank you turbododge. When I bought my Challenger someone had removed a leaf from both sides to lower the car. I put Mopar XHD
springs on a couple of weeks ago and it seems to still sit a little lower in back.
I've been looking at pictures and they do seem to sit lower in the rear.

I gota 75 duster with a 340 I made a custom
set up for my springs. I relocated my shackls
for better ride hidth and machined a couple a spacers to give the leaf springs a little more bow the car rides three inches off of the top of the wheels and hooks reallllly
nicely its not a good resto tip but it will
get you off the line better than the oe setup with out spending over 2 bucks and about an evenings worth of work

JJ Tell us more of what you did. How thick are the spacers? Did you put them in front of the front hangers and / or behind the rear hangers?
what dimensions should we use?
do you have any shots of what you did?

I like the idea and think it will work real well

Christian

I am also interested in what was done. If you have spaced the front hanger to get more arch, it means that the rear shackles have been pushed all the way to rear (almost horizontal). Normally when the spring is compressed, the rear shackle rotates to the rear to take up the increased length that the spring has when compressed. If the shackle is already all the way to the rear, the extra length cannot be absorbed and you effectively have an almost solid spring. More info would be very nice!

How can I lower the rear of my 70 Charger? I have the T-bars pretty low up front and want to level the rear with the front. Thanks.
