Question #1
Do I have to use screws with slicks?? I bought a set of 15x10 prostars used & the offset isn't what I needed. I would like to install my slicks NOW & hope to unload the wheels soon. I figure if I don't drill them I can seel them to someone for street use also.

Any hints for mounting these things with the tubes. I have access to a tire machine at work. The only tube tire I have ever mounted was on my bicycle.

Thanks for the help.

DONT DRILL YOUR RIMS AND LEAVE THE TUBES OUT
THE ONLY REASON FOR THE SCREWS IS TO KEEP THE TIRE FROM SLIPING ON THE RIM AND TEARING THE VALVE STEM OUT OF THE TUBE CAUSING A FLAT

USE LIQUID DISH SOAP ON THE INSIDE OF THE SLICK THIS WILL SEAL AND SMALL LEAKS IN THE SIDE WALL AND IF YOU MARK THE SIDE OF THE TIRE AND RIM YOU WILL FIND THAT THE MOST THE TIRE WILL SLIP ON THE RIM IS ABOUT AN INCH OR LESS

SO WHERE DO YOU RACE LOWVILLE OR THOMPSON IT HAS BEEN ABOUT 12 YEARS SINCE I HAVE BEEN BACK THAT WAY HAS ANYTHING CHANGED I MIGHT GET TO GO TO ONE OF THE LAST RACES OF THE SEASON IN OCTOBER OR EVEN SOME STEELHEAD FISHING AND AN EARLY BLACK POWDER HUNT IF I AM LUCKY

If you are going to run low pressure in slicks and you don't use rim screws when it slips it can unseat and you have instant flat

if your worried about resale then don't put screws in them, many guys don't,also if you don't use a tube be prepared to air them up from time to time because they will go flat, thats the reason for the dish soap,it slows that down.

whats the largest tire i can fit on my duster, using the 14 inch rim. if thats not enough traction for the 451 , do i need to go to a 15 inch rim? i have heard horror stories about changing over to the bigger bolt pattern.

The rule of thumb I was given was that if you run 10 psi or more cold, then you don't need screws. Less than 10 psi, definitely screw them to the rims.

My old wheels had screws, so I haven't tested this "rule of thumb". But I have asked guys at the drag strip when I saw they didn't have screws on their slicks.

Cool

Duster440, i run M/T 28-11.5-15 e.t. street tires on my 70 Duster. They are aprox. 28"in dia., and approx. 9" wide. They are 15" I run them on CraegerSS rims with 4 1/2" back spacing. They fit the car perfect. I have moser axles since i race thats why i have the big bolt pattern. The rear brakes are from a 69 c-body. I also have ss mopar springs so it give a bit more clearance for the tires. I think if you run 14" you can get a 26" tall slick, check JEGS or Summit.

good luck. motor
