Question

I'm at a point in the engine build-up where I need to buy an SFI-approved damper. I like the price of the Fluidamper knock-off that Mancini sells ($239), but my engine builder uses nothing but ATI Super Dampers. Those go for around $330.00. He says he likes them because they work better and they're rebuildable. ATI's own catalog shows a graph where the original Fluidamper actually dampened harmonics better than the ATI up to 7,000 rpm. Above that, the ATI did perform better. My internally balanced 440 will never rev past 7,000 (up to, but not over). Which damper would you guys choose?

I have no experience about ATI, but I have two fluidampers and have no bad word to say about them.

I've used the Fluidamper for the last 6 years and never had a problem. Before we changed rear gears, we reved to 7200 every pass and hit the chip at 7800 3 times when we broke the rear end.

I know I wouldn't use a Proform. I saw a guy who put a new one on his S10 2 weeks ago. It came apart (at less than 6000) and took out the radiator, waterpump and part of the front end.

My $.02!

You can also get the Fluiddampner knockoff mancini sells from Chet Herbert in Cali. for $165. They advertise in National Dragster. It is the same one mancini sells. I bought one a month or so ago and saw mancini selling them at the Chrysler Classic for more. Sorry I haven't ran it yet but it looks like a quality piece.

Question

Has anyone used the silicone fluid SFI damper from Flatlander Racing? I think it is made by "Pro Line". They say tested to 18,000 rpm, engraved timing marks and at $169 it is priced right!

Cool

That's a good lookin' Dart, bemiller! How about adding some bigger photos, plus engine and interior photos to your site? They will help show the car better.
