Question

Hi there.I was under the assumption that i had a 904 but was told they measured 30.5" in length.Well my trans measures 37".
Does this mean my 904 has suddenly turned into a 727.
Thanks..

There are long and short tail section versions of this trans. If the pan is squarish, it is a 904/9xx. If it has a protrusion at one of the corners it is a 727.

Cool

Look at the shape of the pan. The 727 has a bulge at the filler tube area. The 904 has sort of a square pan. If you had both trans setting side by side you could see a big difference in them.

I checked the pan and it does have the bulge under the filler tube area.
Cool guys thanks for the help, looks like i scored a 727 when i brought my 318 with trans attached.Even though i originally thought it was the 904 which was the norm on 1979 models.
Thanks...

Also if you look at the bell housing, you'll see that it is smooth on a 727, and the 904 has a hump between the bell and the main body of the trans.
