How much does the 400 w/ 440 crank engine weigh? and has anyone tried this combo in a Modified and what cylinder heads are best. I would be new to Modified racing, so give me the skinny on whats the best bang for the buck. Is the bolt patter the same for the B and smaller 340 block?

I think the that the 451, although chiefly used by the drag guys, has potential for circle track. I don't know the exact weight, It's more than a small block and less than a RB like a 440. With it's big bore, stout bottom end and great rod to stroke ratio, it would be fun to try.
The problem I see in a modified is to get it to hook up, especially on dry-slick. It'd be easy to make a lot of reliable horsepower, but how well would it work off the corners with restricted tires? That would be the challenge. A friend and I and putting together a 451 combo for a B body street stock. It wont be ready this year, but we thought it'd be a different way to overcome the weight disadvantage of a heavy car like a B body. We run 10 inch tires under our rules, so that'll help with the traction issue. I think It'd be a cool combination for a bigger track. |
