Question

I have a question about the bypass hose from the intake to the water pump on my small block. This is for my drag car and I was wondering if it can be left off. I have seen them off of a few cars but haven't talked to the people about it. I depend on the vast knowledge of this awesome website to help me in the Mopar or nocar revolution. Thank's Gary

Thumbs up Bypass hose

Yes you can leave it out.The water pump nipple can be blocked off via a rubber cap and hose clamp,or have the nipple filled with epoxy(which is what I did) or have it welded closed. On a drag car it wont affect cooling at all.On the intake you can get a aluminum pipe plug and seal the intake that way.

Don't really know of any. No horsepower advantage with a electric water pump drive. I guess just not having to buy a hose and putting it on. I know this might seem funny but I think it would look more like a race motor with less hoses on it. Really clean up the engine compartment.

A cool way to block off the water pump fitting is to tap the inside 1/2-13 and with some good sealer screw in a set screw. I used a stainless screw with some Ultr Copper sealer. Just make sure that you grease the tap to catch the chips and make sure the hole is clean and dry before you install the screw. I put a yellow cap from a split-fire plug over the neck. People see it and think it will fly off but it doesnt.
