It's getting close to that time, i'm gonna start working on my 70' 340 Swinger! Everything else is done already except for the engine! I have a A-833 trans and a 8 3/4 rear with 3.91 "SURE-GRIP". I need some ideas for the engine!,, should i go with a 318, 340 or 360! Don't wanna go anybigger, and what sort of combo should i go with! Wanna run high 13's or low 14.2

I built a 360 4speed duster and it ran great.
If you go with a 360 there are a few things that need special attention. 360's have larger main journals wich require more oil. I recomend a high volume and high pressure oil pump with full groove main bearings. You also need to consider the external balance of the 360 Used 360 flywheels are imposable to find and a new one is'nt cheep. I used a 318 flywheel and balanced it with a print and instructions I found in an old Direct Connection Chassis book (not in the newer books). Good luck with your project. |

360
360's are easy to find and are a good engine to build decent power with. Definately do not go with the 318 unless it is given to you and you are short on cash -- there's just no point giving up that many cubes.

Buy MPs assembled short block 360 with 10:1 comp,add Edelbrocks alum heads and go,itll set you back $1100 for the sb and $1270 for the heads with bolts,youll go way faster than 13s,my car runs 12.28 with 3.23s,pm me for details.............PRO.........
