OK I know I,m going to get abuse over this one but, how much louder will dumping the original muffler be? Also how much performance gain is there?
After reading some of these posts I decided to get rid of the dumb silencer ring on the turbo, way too cool! What other free mods do you suggest? BTW, My truck is a '99 2500 Quad cab, short box, and the only "real" motor to ever check off the option list. |

WAHOOOO!!! Another soon to be member of the thunder truck club!!But seriously, you'll love the sound with no muffler and cat,,Yes, it is louder but it a wonderfull sound to your ears, especially when you tow ,,Since the truck you have is a 24 valve there are not many free mods to do,one you can do although not free is a set of 275 rv injectors that will wake her up,,Now no one will abuse you with a question like you asked, but, how could you not want to have the ANGRY,ON STEROIDS,TOTALLY MASSIVE GARBAGE TRUCK SOUND your mufflerless RAM will have(like Lions,Tigers and NO MUFFLERS ,,OH MY!!!!!)As far as performance, since mine came off(Think it was taken by aliens)I have not got a chance to redyno it,,Looking forward to doing that as weather gets nicer and I get some time off,, LONG LIVE THE THUNDER TRUCKS!!

BRM, about how much do the 275 injectors cost, and were can I pick them up at? Power really isn't a problem but you can never have enough! A friend has a '98 24v w/ Banks Stinger plus kit but costs way to much for me, but both pulling a 28' enclosed trailer w/ car he will flat out pull me! I just don't need to be left behind in the next county!

There are many places to purchase the injectors you seek,as for prices on 24 valve equipment I'd have to look them up as neither of mine are the new motor,,Check TSTProducts.com,BD-VFI.com,Speedwayblvd.com,EnterpriseEngine.com or a host of others that are around,,The only two that I use are Enterpriseengine and TST,,They both have been very helpfull and provide the support you seek,,As far as Banks goes, after a bad experience with them and their products/support staff I will not recommend them, but its your choice( Myself ,I think you can get a better bang for your buck elsewhere),,Hope you find the power you seek. LONG LIVE THE THUNDER TRUCKS!!!!!!

Its a resinator. Everyone thinks its a cat system, including the muffler shops that whine when you want them to cut the muffs out.
One free mod you can do is adjust your valves. I have seen engines gain 7-10% in power on the dyno due to screwed up valve adjustments. Here is a quick list of how to do it. I use dial indicators, you SEE what the lash is, not feel. They are more acurate than feeler gages. Another thing ONLY ROTATE THE ENGINE THE WASY IT NORMALY ROTATES....NEVER TURN AN ENGINE IN REVERSE ROTATION WHEN DOING VALVE ADJUSTMENTS. Everthing has lash in it, and you will screw everything up by not doing it the right way. Back all the adjustment nuts off on all rockers, then run them down with your fingers until they touch (you will only be able to run down the rockers with no tension on them...the ones with tension will have to wait their turn on the next round when you rotate the engine 360 degrees. Zero the gage out and adjust for ever how many mm or whatever measurement you want to use. 1. Put cyl #1 on TDC by using the TDC mark behind the crank case breather on the front of the engine. You will have to remove the breather...I believe it unscrews. You will see "TDC" stamped at 12 o'clock inside the case and a mark on the fuel pump timing gear. Put that mark on the 12 o'clock TDC position. 2. Remove the valve cover, and mark the following INTAKE valves with a paint marker, 1,2,4. 3. Now mark EXHAUST valves 1,3,5. with the paint marker. You should have 6 rockers marked now. 4. Adjust the INTAKE valves somewhere between .15mm and .38mm., I shoot for the middle of the road .25mm. 5. Adjust the EXHAUST valves now between .38mm and .76mm., again I shoot for middle of the road about .57mm. 6. Give all the rockers a good wiggle before removing the gage to make sure all the play is out of them. NOW ROLL THE ENGINE OVER 360 DEGREES AND ADJUST THE 6 ROCKERS NOT PAINTED WITH A DOT. Put it all back together, your done. |
