Hi,
I had a 440 rebuilt years ago by a machine shop that is no longer in business. I supplied most internals, including a 484 lift Purple Shaft cam. I had them get the valve springs to match the cam. I now want to change the cam to a 509. I need to know if the current valve springs will work with the 509. I only have a part number for the springs... US 967. The 'U' could be a 'V', hard to tell with the handwriting. Any ideas would be great.

I don't know what springs those are...sorry. I will give you some advice, do yourself a favor and buy a new set of springs designed for the new cam.
You didn't say how long ago the old springs were installed, but remember that springs lose there pressure over time. Even in the winter months when your car is stored. They are under constant pressure and as such they lose there ability to withstand the higher rpms with age. It might cost a little more now, but it's better to do it right the first time.
Check at your local Mopar dealer and look at the Mopar Performance catalog. I don't have mine in front of me, or I'd give you the part number.

Good luck

Jeff C.

The engine has approx. 10000 km's (6000miles) on it. Was driven for 4 seasons, stored for 6. Total 10 years in engine. How long do they last?

I don't think anyone can give you an exact time on how long they last. Some racers change them out every so many races. The six years you had the car stored was harder on the spings than the 4 years driving it. Why? because unless you took tension off them by loosening the rocker shaft bolts, you had constant pressure at one point...not good in the long run.
The springs from Mopar Performance that you need are as follows:
Springs part number P5249848 rated for .480"-.540" lift range. Installed height is listed as 1.86"-1.87".
They list out for $7.50 each, dealer net $4.30 each.
The recommended retainers, if needed are
P4452033 list at $4.75 and dealer net $2.70 each. US price, of course. It should give an idea as to your pricing.

Later,

Jeff C.
