What kind of set up are you running in your 440? I'm gonna be putting a cam in my Pickup with a 400. It weighs 4500lbs. I'm going to be using an M1 dualplane intake and 750 holley 3310. I'm gonna keep the bottom end and heads stock. I was going to run a purple shaft but what do you think?

There is a big difference between a 400 and a 440. The main factors are stroke length and compression ratio.
If your trying to stay with an inexpensive MP cam, I would stay with a really mild one unless you change gears and converter.
For the MP cams I would probbly use the P4452783 "Magnum" restoration cam with 268/284 duration, 0.450"/0.458" lift on 115 LSA, and I would probbly install it way advanced (maybe 104 to 106 degrees) unless you have increased the compression ratio.

The newer fast rate-of-lift cams from places like Hughes, Crower, or Comp Cams may make a bit more power, but they cost more and you will have to replace the valve springs and retainers which adds even more to the cost.

The Springs should be all you need to change..it is advisable anyway, as they get weaker when older, and its cheap insurance. Check your Cylinder pressure...this will determine what cam will work best...3844 cam requires about 160PSI and up. I wouldnt run out and change converters yet either....i ran mine with a stock hemi converter(about 2200 stall) and it ran nice(changing to a 3800 stall did pick up 60 foot times .15 tenths though). I have this very cam for sale, im taking it out now. will sell cheep...

Well the truck has a stock converter and it has stock 4.10 gears. I was thinking of the magnum cam, along with some new springs and roller rockers. Thanks for the advice

Cdignition, How did you like your HE3844 Cam, I am thinking about this cam for my 440-6 street car. I have a 2800 stall converter, headers and 3.91 gears.
