Where would you start with a 2nd. Gen Chrysler 3.5L engine if you wanted to power up? Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks.

Well because of the fuel injection you are going to run into problems with performance up grades. But if I was going to try and get some more HP I would first go through the exhaust. Maybe a K&N filter. Then from there see if you can have the computer flashed for more timing and a different fuel curve. If you want to go more from there you are going to need to pull the heads and do some porting work. But you are very limited because no one makes performance parts for the 3.5 L since it is a very good performer to begin with. It does lack a little off the line punch but above 4000 rpm they really pull hard. Hope other people here have some input for you.

take a good look at your air cleaner box.
I don't know how bad the Intepid one is, but it is a good place to start. Because there are drive by noise emission restrictions on newer cars most air boxes are silenced, meaning restrictive. Go buy one out of a junked Intrepid of the same year and see where you can plum in more air (fresh, cold air is best) without bypassing the filter. Use a high flow filter, k&n etc. or see if K&n or iceman has a aftermarket cold air intake. Good Luck. |
