Hey y'all:

I'm thinking about buying a diesel ram. I have a friend who works for Daimler Chrysler and he (who shall remain anonymous) has told me that there is a STRONG likelihood that the Cummins diesel will not be offered in the Dodge after 2002. According to him, there may be a Mercedes-Benz 6 cyl. TD under the hood for 2003. The reason for this is that it will just be easier to obtain the Diesels since they are manufactured by DC and not an outside company. I don't know if its true or just a good rumor, but, when you take into consideration the fact that DC is now offering MB diesels in Freightliner trucks, it does lead to some speculation. Any ideas from y'all?

If it does happen, should I buy one now, or wait till the MB version comes out?

Personally if it were me I would find a Cummins power Ram. They are "easily" modified for higher power levels, anywhere from 225hp to 610hp at the rear wheels and "ungodly" amounts of torque.

Lots of them running around 300 to 400hp at the rear wheels.

Check out TurboDieselRegister and you'll have lots of reading.

Your in NC, I'll see if I can find someone around there to put ya in touch with so ya can drive a "modified" Cummins........after that I am sure your mind will be made up.

Default North Carolina -

Read this thread on the TDR, you won't be able to post there but you can email people.

Contact some of these members and talk to them, maybe even show up at one of their meetings, I am sure they will be happy to show ya and explain to ya about their "Beloved" Cummins.

NC TDR Thread

Any questions or if I can help email me at katdiesel@home.com

Angry Leave it to executives to screw-up a good thing!

It would not surprise me if they did switch. In fact, I heard this rumor years ago from a engineer that works for Diamler-Benz. I work for a company that supplies parts to the OEM, and Diamler happens to be one of our customers, and they show up once in a while for product reviews, etc. A few months after the Diamler / Chrysler "merger", there was a product review with a bunch of big wigs and engineers involved. After the meeting was over, one of the higher up engineers made the comment that they were already making plans to replace the Cummins with their own diesels.

Yea, great, just great. From the same great minds that have managed to deplete Chrysler of billions of dollars in just a few short years, bring them to a grinding halt and force the lay-off of tens of thousands, when just a few short years ago, the company was making marketing and engineering headlines all the time without the help of these self-proclaimed automotive geniuses.

Better buy your Cummins truck NOW! I'm not saying that the M-B diesels are bad, but I don't think that they're any better than the Cummins, and I'd be willing to bet that there will be some problems as they integrate their engine into the Dodge truck. Well, that'd be my guess at least.

Kat:

Upon your recommendation on the TDR Website, I
decided to "register" on this one. This is a "test" to
see if I can post yet. BTW, have you heard from
"CHRGR" yet?

I got a message from him. I sent you his email address via email. In case he doesn't want his email exposed.

Thanks John
