I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE MY 360 MAKE 4OO HORSES WITHOUT CHANGING PISTONS, CRANK,ETC. I HAVE A DUAL PLANE INTAKE, PROBABLY CHANGINE TO AN M1, HOLLEY 650 DP, HEADERS AND A NEW WILWOOD BRAKE SYSTEM. IM ALSO GOING TO INSTALL 3.91 GEARS, 2800 STALL, AND TRICK THE 904. COMP. ABOUT 8.4. I WANT A HYDRAULIC CAM AND LIFTERS. NO ROLLER. HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK I SHOULD MILL THE HEADS (1.88& 1.60'S)SOON 2.02'S, AND ESPECIALLY WHAT CAM. I DONT CARE IF IT IS A GAS GUZZLER. I WANT MY BABY TO SOUND RADICAL AND INTIMIDATE OTHERS. IM INTERESTED IN HUGHES REAL CHRYSLER CAM 214/223 AND .470/.504.HAS ANYONE USED THEIR CAM KITS? WELL, ANY INFO. AND EXPERIENCE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

9-1 compression is going to be hard to get 400 HP. You just dont have enough squeeze to cover the cam, it will kill any bottom end you may have. The bigger the cam, the more compression you need to keep it from bleeding off all the low rpm compression.

You can put in the lumpety cam, but you probably should expect little old ladies in wheel chairs to beat you away from stop lights.

I have just recieved this exact cam for my 440. It will not get installed until the weather cools off though. I do not believe that this cam will be all that "lumpety" It only has 214 degrees of overlap at .050" on the intake. Usually when a cam gets around 230 degrees overlap at .050" it gets "lumpety" Hughes does strongly suggest using the 1105 part # springs. The opening on the exhaust is over .500"

If you want a lumpy idle then go with the MP 509 cam for the small block. Be advised that it will kill any bottom end that engine has due to the low compression. If you really want to run a lot of cam you are going to have to bump the squeeze up to about 10 to 1 to retain any bottom end power. By the time you do all that you might as well buy a crate 360/380 and start with a new engine.

I don't think that 214 cam will be enough to get you the 400 hp you're looking for. I am building a 360 as well and went with the HE3844AL grind, that's 237/24something (I can't remember the exact exhaust duration). Dave @ Hughes said the motor should be good for around 425hp or so. But the He3844 is much more cam than what you have with the 214.

Besides, I don't think that 214 is all that radical anyways, it's actual rather mild cam.
Your static CR is a problem though, you need to up it to at least 9:1.
