This is a little off in the distance, but after reading the replies to my first thread on a cheap 500 cubic inch motor, I see the plan needs a little more thinking out.
I've seen the Eagle Crank listed as a new item on the Mancini Web page, $800.00 U.S. for the 4340 steel. Now that is a really good grade steel, plus with all the benefits of the balancing, chamfering of the oil holes, and cross through drilling, indexing of the stroke etc, it's hard to beat that crank, I think. What about the MP Unit. The same unit would be about $1200.00 U.S., and that is not including the cross through drilling. Lastly, the tried and true stock steel crank. Yes, you can weld it, up to a 4.15 stroke, index the crank, and do the rest of the neat ' racing tricks' to it, for less, but it's still a stock piece. I'm real set on building a 500 cubic inch motor. It just sounds real neat, an ego thing. Has anyone used the new eagle crank as yet? Or for that matter the MP unit? As I'm typing this it seemed to me that I have sold myself on the Eagle crank, but this forum has so many good people on board, I wanted to here some opinions. Thanks again, Bryan |
