i am getting ready to put the distributer in my 440, i was told that is was at TDC, how do i check that is, the motor is out of the car and there are no plugs in it, and the valve covers are off.

JOE,rotate engine over clockwise while you have a finger over the sparkplug hole,when you feel compression check to see where the timing mark is on the damper.keep rotating until the mark on the damper lines up with 0 on the tab.Look down into the engine and see that the slot in the drive gear is parallel with the cam.Drop in distributor and check that the rotor is pointing to #1
