After months of listening to the bowtie brigade smugly and erroneously charge that the new Mopar Cup heads were nothing but SB2 Chevys, it was good to hear Joey Arrington describe it as similar to the Poly head engines designed by Chrysler for the 1955 models.

I heard that also! Great homework on the part of that commentator. Chrysler had made some major advances in head design from the 40's on into the 50's The poly heads, early hemis and late hemis resulted directly from those earlier technology advances. Nothing has ever really come close!

I think that head is based on the World of Outlaws head, they had great sucess with it there,so why change a good thing.I know that they have 2 motors that are legal in NCT,the old truck motor, and the new motor that is in the cup cars. They also said the truck motor actually makes more power than the cup motor. Its max torque is made a few RPM lower though. The trucks areo packages keep it from going as fast as a cup car.I assume this motor is simaler to what will be in Dodges Busch cars next year, with changes to acomodate the rules.

There's no telling what the bowtie bozos saw, other than the tailgate of that Mopar truck. Another win and I bet we hear them crying out loud.

Poly head
The head for the new R5-P7 engine is a derivative of the old Chrysler poly head engines from 1955 and 1956. Refer to the diagrams in the site listed below:
http://www.concentric.net/~ftomjack/hemi/polywhat.shtml Notice the offset valve alignment. I think it would be fair to say that the Chevy B2 design is a derivative of the Chrysler poly head! |

I neglected to mention another site that show the splayed valve layout of the Chrysler poly head design more clearly:
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/T...headdiag2.html Chevy clearly did not come up with the original splayed valve design. I think this site exposses the B2 myth even more clearly than the polyhead site: http://www.concentric.net/~ftomjack/hemi/polywhat.shtml |
