I have a 72' 318 with the electric distribtor and Orange box. I have a Holley 600cfm! It seems to crank over like5 sec before starting--i put new battery terminals on and checked wiring! Could it be a bad connestion or starter selonoid!!!!

Dart, Check your carb. it sounds like a fuel problem. Also, pull a plug wire and have some one turn the key and look for a spark as soon as the engine starts to rotate. If the starter works, the compression is good, there is spark (set at 8 to 10 deg.)The trouble must be fuel. Check your choke to make sure it is closed when the engine is cold.

Dart, I had the same problem with engine cranking longer than it should. I replaces the starter solenoid on fire wall and cured the problem.
