Question

i bought a 1976 360. 2BRL motor. dont know a lot about small blocks. always worked with big blocks/hemis. anyway this motor is going in a 38 desoto coupe.streetrod.just a nice driver.904 tranny, 8.75 diff 3.23, AC..etc going to redo the block. what heads should i use? stock? 340? swirl port? does this (2BRL) block have dished pistons? what size valves do i have?...what about thin head gasket? using a eldebrock performer intake. AVS carb stock 625 cfm. stock 1970 A body exhaust manifolds.... also i`m planing to use a comp cams hi energy 268 .454 lift cam. has any on used it? looking for lowend/ midrange power..no fancy machine work, what about a windage tray? is it worth the cost for a driver? that is being used at a low/ mid RPM range most of the time? as for the heads want something that can use stock push rods/rockers. as i said i have never used a small block always 440/hemi. what do you think?

sounds like you have a good start for a cruiser for a good piston try the KB-107 THIS IS A GOOD PISTON COMPRESSION HT. IS ABOUT 1.675" AND WILL GIVE ABOUT 9.5 COMPRESSION

I DONT LIKE COMP CAMS BUT YOUR PICK SHOULD DO JUST FINE

THE WINDAGE TRY IS NOT NEEDED BUT IT WONT HURT

YOUR SMOG HEADS ARE JUST FINE

WHAT CAMS WOULD YOU THINK TO BE A BETTER CHOICE?

Well just a FYI, here is the motor that I am putting together right now for my 74 power wagon, it should be around the performance you are looking for. (a little snap without all of the ratty motor headaches)

74 360 block (had to go 30 over to clean it up)
pistons: federal mogul hypereutectic @9:1
heads: edelbrock aluminum
headers: I think they are hooker (came on truck)
cam: crower compu-pro adv dur= 271 284 dur@50= 222 234 lift=.485 .495 lobe cen= 112
(I prefer crower compu-pro cams, they are one of the few cams that does not just have a chevy grind on a mopar stick, just check it out, all of comp cams grinds for the chevy match the mopar and don't take advantage of the larger lifters in the mopar. the choice is up to you though.)
I don't yet know how this will run, but if you are patient I can tell you in about a month. (I am guessing around 300hp and 350ftlb of torque).

thanks for the info. when you get your motor up and running let me know about it. mine is a long term project, just trying to get some go insight on what to use, and what to not to waste money on that might have been a bad choice. thanks Shawn

I have used the kb-107 pistons they will work just fine ,use the composite head gasket .038 compressed.this will make around 9.5 to 1 comp on a stock head at a zero to .005 deck height. There is a cheap set of cast pistons made for the 1971 360 they will give you low 8.something compression ratio. My buddy used these in a 360 with the mp 4452759 cam in a dart ,manifolds, single 3" exh , 355 gears ,600 cfm edelbrock carb , ran 13.87 in the 1/4. I also have used the mp 4452759 cam it works really good the 4452761 cam will also work great, I would use the 761 cam in your combo if you bump the copression. The heads you have will be fine. You could bowl port them to help and use a 2.02 intake valve. You have 1.88 int and a 1.60 exh stock valve size .The Edelbrock PERFORMER RPM is a good intake for this combo NOTE THE EDELBROCK PERFORMER has the mounting hole for the new style AC pump ,I dont know if the RPM model has this ,you may want to check. This set up will easily make over 300 hp. The cam specs are here http://www.performanceparts.mopar.co...log/index.html

Your stock 360 has dished pistons and around 7.8to 1 compression if you measured it.Not good.
The comp cam 268 will work fine also. I would find a factory high stall coverter (2200 rpm) they are usually cheap like $50 to $75 already serviced.
Sounds like that will be a nice ride.

good luck
