i just ordered a fuel pump from summit. i was told to get the holley blue. well i ordered the electric street pump holly part #12-801, and pre set at 7 psi and 97 gph, but it is the holley red. my car is going to be a every day driver, and i have a 440, with close to 475hp, will this work ok, or does it nned a manual pump also, i dont have room on my engine for a manual. or should i exchange it for a different one, i am on a limited budget so not too expensive.

There is an equation for figuring fuel consumption by horse power. It has something to do with 100 lbs of fuel per 100 hp. Fuel weighs about 7 lbs per gallon. The red unit pumps 97 gph. So... 97x7=679lbs in an hour. You think your motor makes about 475 hp....679-475=204. You need to make about 200 hp more. Actualy it's not quite that simple but, I would say you will be alright but,...the blue is a better choice if you think you may upgrade to more horses. If anyone knows the exact equation please post it. I have slept a couple of times.

Too bad you are on a budget. I like the "you need 200 more horsepower" thing. If you didn't get what you ordered though, I wouldn't keep it if they made the mistake. They will refund the shipping also if you send the receipt for the shipping cost back with the part. Otherwise get the difference back if it cost less and you think it will work. It should work though for an everyday driver. I'm curious why you don't have the room for the manual pump. The Carter pumps work great even with 440 sixpac cars.

i dont think i have the room because my 440 is in a 72 duster and the heat would be too much.

I ran the red holley pump on my 383 dart last year. It ran out gas around 1000ft on every run with it. Car would start stuttering. She sure was consitent though. I ran like four 11.86's in a row at like 108mph. I replaced it after one race with the blue pump and now no stutter, to my surprise the car hardly picked up any et at all (11.80) but did pick up to 113mph

I have the carter High Performance Strip Pump in my car 383 68 Barracuda (A-body) and it fits fine with no problems. Will be looking into a electric pump later when I add fuel injection but until then I am fine with what I have.

Here is a formula for fuel pump capacity at WOT:
0.5 lbs of fuel per horsepower every hour.
A gallon of gas weighing 6 lbs.
350hp X .5 lb. = 175 lbs
175 lbs / 6 lbs = 29 gallons per hour.

Make sure you can get it there. Use 3/8 lines at least.

The RED pump flows 67 GPH @ 5psi
the BLUE pumps flows 70 GPH @ 9 psi
the BLACK flows 120 @ 9 psi
