What is a good sealer to use on Big Block Header bolts so the heads do not leak water.

Fly Boy, I'd use studs. I never had ANY LUCK keeping bolts sealed in the water jacket on the exhaust side on my small blocks.

You can't beat studs, but not many cars have enough room for them. I use teflon tape on the bolts. As long as the bolts are long enough they should seal.
I can't use studs on any, my hedders fit that tight.

Leigh and Glen, Here is what I am doing. I have a set of 1-7/8" TTi Headers I am putting on my 74 440 Six-Pack Cuda. And I Will check my clearance for studs. Thanks

If you use studs, the threads still have to be sealed. Make sure the threads in the head are nice and clean, then coat the threads on the stud with high temp silicone and torque the studs into place. If time is not a factor, let it sit without coolant in it until the silicone fully cures. (about 24 hours @ room temp)

When you do it right the first time you don't have to do it over!

Thanks amoparguy, I have a lot of time for the Sealer to harden. The heads are not on the engine yet. I am building a new engine for the car so I have about three weeks before I will add any coolant.

Most silicone sealers will work. They also now have Teflon sealer in a tube which is perfect for this application. However, if you intend to use stainless studs or bolts, you MUST use anti-seize on any nut you use on the stud. If you have never run into the problem of stainless nuts and bolts welding themselves together, you're in for a real treat. Most suppliers of stainless fasteners warn you about the consequences of not using anti-seize.
If you have room for studs and are building a show-motor, Hilco Fasteners in Garden Grove, CA has some very nice ones with tapered ends. I used them on my Max Wedge and they looked trick!
Good luck!

You cant use studs on all the bolt holes on a BB,there are 6 bolts per side,if you number them 1-6 from front to back on both sides youll find that #2 and #5 usually cant accept studs as the header tube comes too close.I use "The Right Stuff"(napa, autozone, checker all carry it)it far superior to any silicone product........PRO......
