Question

A FRIEND HAS A 2000 R/T DAKOTA WITH A KENNE BELL SUPERCHARGER.THE TRANSMISSION OF COURSE IS A ELECTRONIC SHIFT.WE PUT A KENNE BELL TRANS KIT IN IT TO FIRM UP THE SHIFTS.IT SHIFTS GOOD BUT YOU CAN'T MANUALLY SHIFT IT.MEANING SOMETIMES YOU HIT THE REV LIMITER SOMETIMES YOU SHIFT TO EARLY.WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS PUT A 727 WITH A CONVERTER AND A CHEETAH VALVEBODY IN IT.I KNOW IT IS A STEP BACKWARDS BUT WE FEEL IT WILL HELP DRASTICLY.THE TAILSHAFT ON A 727 IS 6 INCHES SHORTER.THE TRUCK IS AN EXTENDED CAB.HOW LONG CAN YOU GO WITH A DRIVESHAFT?COULD YOU PUT THE OUTPUT SHAFT AND EMPTY OVERDRIVE TAILHOUSING ON IT?

Have you thought about installing a Trans-Go shift kit and a higher stall converter in your 518. This will save you a lot of time and money. I instaled The Trans-Go kit in my 92 Dakota. It will shift great when left in drive or when shifted manually. Then you pull the lever it shifts. You can adjust the shift point from 5000 to 7200 rpm then it is in drive. There 518 overdrive kit uses the same springs and valves that the 727 kit uses plus some other parts used for the over drive unit.
