Has anyone ever wondered if with your quick curved timing (lets say all in @ 1500rpm)and at lets say 2500 rpm cruising or lets say cam break in rpm that you wouldnt be making a lean situation. The throttle plates are barely open and you have full timing advance and a big cam . I read an article once on a oval track racer who said on a caution flag that the engines would lean out due to the throttle plates being in a near closed position ,he said you could burn a piston. He said to work the throttle to eliminate this.Sometimes I wonder when peoples headers glow if this is not the case , like a 2500 rpm cam break in.I was also told that on a dyno carbs go through lean and rich stages @ different throttle plate openings and rpms. The original timing was not in till what 3000 rpm or more . Just a thought. What are your thoughts ?

I think it's possible, but I also would think that engine load would have the most influence on whether the engine is running lean or not in that situation.
