First where are you measuring the temp. We take them about 1" from the head in the tube on the dyno. Second heat is power so there is no set answer. All things considered we like to see them in the 1300's and even a Wot

2" out for probe placement does seem a little far out on the header tube to me. Believe high 1300's at WOT would have you close - if the probe was a little closer to the port itself - perhaps high 1200's could still be close, due to placement on yours. Of course, this can depend greatly on the ignition timing as well. Slower timing will dramatically affect your readings, by increasing exhaust temps.

Default EGT temps

HI,Jamze Duncan,

thanks for the info,do you have any experience tuning a holley from the egt readings? within 15 seconds of starting the engine I found the temps on the front cylinders more than doubled the rear? what would you suggest? thanks

Not enough info. Under what condicions did this occur. If at idle, do you have two or four idel screws. Under power brake on just the primaries. Trans brake all four barrels open. to analysis all things must be knowen.

Unhappy so many adjustments

cuda367,
thanks for the interest,I certainly need advice.this was at idle.carb is a 750 double pumper annular discharge with 4 corner idle.rear temps were high 400's and primarys were high 1000's.jets were 77 primary and 87 secondary with 3.5 power valve.mixture screws were
1 1/2 turns out on all. adusted primarys 3 turns out to get egt down to 820's to 840's. adjusted secondarys to
1/2 turn out to get egt up to high 700's.at this point the engine temp stopped climbing and idled for 35 minutes at 170 degrees. Its NEVER done that before,so in my opinion the investment for the egt paid for itself right there! obviously looking at the carb the mixture screws are not right, where do I go from here? help.......
