I received my heads from mancini the other day and in the box was a flyer. On the second page they have 360 dampers for pre-magnum 71-92 part#p5007301. I know that me and other people have been tring to find new ones and it appears they are making them again. Waynebo

Default Been down this road....

Very recently when I thought I had toasted off the damper on my '73 340 (cast crank - external balance) The 360 damper has been available from MP for years, as has the unit for 318s and internally balanced 340 engine - researched this to death & it seems no-one builds a stock replacement peice for my engine tho...

Actually your right...I just checked back on all my old MP & DC catalogues and the production style damper for pre magnum 360s does not appear until the 1999 edition. My apologies. They still do not make one for my engine tho...which I think is kinda odd due to the fact there were a high percentage of 73 340 cars built with manual transmissions - the setup in which a damper is most likely to fail. Sorry again - not trying to lead you down the garden path.

This discussion leads me to another question however. I live in Canada where, unlike the U.S., you cannot buy Mopar Performance parts anywhere except your local dealer. The product line is not available to speed shops or auto stores.

This really sucks in my area, because it is tough to get a dealer parts man to help you with "them racin' parts"
They don't know anything about it and they truly do not care. As a matter of fact, it has taken me literally months to get simple items like fuel pump block off plates & rocker shaft hold-downs.

How do you guys find the service at your local Chrysler dealer? Are they interested, or do you get the impression you are just keeping them from selling another bra for someone's minivan?

For the same reasons you just listed i do not use any of my local dealers anymore. www.manciniracing.com has what i need @ very good prices, right now they are having one hell of a sell, you need to check'em out.go to the index on the online catalog and scroll down slowly and you might find that damper. Question

Is this the STOCK damper you are talking about or the SFI approved one?

BillyBob, can you give me more information on the pistons?
Are they new or used?
Forged or cast?
What is the compression height from the pin to the top of the piston?

I have a '71 date code 360 that is already 0.040" over and an offset 360 crank (3.60") that may work with the pistons.

NEW in cartons.TRW Forged # L2405F(was ordered for a 78-360)
Measuring with a somewhat crude ruler, from the top of the pin to the top of the outer edge of the piston is APPROX. 1" from there it rises approx. .020 on an angle to a flat portion about 3/8" wide then drops down again to about the same height as the outside edge. Also has a button in the center of the piston. Not exactly a TRUE flattop in the sense of the word.

Billy Bob,
