What do you guys think of running 4:30 with 30 inch (275/70R-15 or 285/70R-15) tires around town? This way I can change over to 26 inch slicks for the track and get the full potential by just changing the tire size.

With 30" tall tires it will cruise around 2900 rpm @ 60mph. I had 4.10's in the GTX with shorter tires and cruised about 3200 @ 60mph. It didn't have alot of top end. But, as many Ford and Chevy drivers found out, it sure had great acceleration.

JUST A THOUGHT ,BUT 4;30 WITH A 28" TIRE WILL GO THROUGH THE TRAPS IN THE 1/4 MILE AT 6000 RPM.26" WILL PUT YOU WELL INTO 6300RPM. DO YOU HAVE ENOUGH CAM TO PULL AT THIS RPM? 30" TIRES WILL WORK WELL IN GENERAL BUT HOW MUCH DAILY DRIVING IS DONE WITH YOUR SET UP.YOU BE THE JUDGE

Thumbs up

Well, here is my setup; 292 Mopar cam (509 lift), Torker intake, stock 906 heads with angle valve job, 650 holley dbl pump, no headers. The few times I have pushed it, it felt like all guts were on the top end (which on this setup it should be). I figured that if I were to ever bring it to the track, 26 to 28 inch slicks would do great. Around town the 285/70R-15 (which are about 30 - 31 inch tires) would do great around town. So, I guess from what I know (which is not much based on the other Mopar guys within these postings) I think the cam could do it.

Most of the time I drive her on the weekends only and not more than 30 miles away. Some light to light stuff but most just shows. The track would be just for fun from time to time.

Well I can tell you that I just went to track yesterday with my 72 383 Dart and its stock 452 heads and the 484-284 cam and with 3.91,s and 26" tall G-60 McCrearys it went 12.49 at 110 and I dont even have a tach in the car as I shifted by ear but it was pretty well wrung out at the finish line and I would say it was around 6000 as I only have Single springs with a dampner and the heads are pocket ported and thats all with stock valves and I dont think there is much more then 6000 in the power range but it pulled real good and I cruise the street with them and I dont like to cruise much more then 60 mph very long ! You can see my car at www.bigblockdart.com if youlike but I like the 3.91,s with the 26' tall tires , Ron
