What is the usuable rpm range of a stock 340 intake manifold? Any "cheap" ways to increase the range as i have almost no money to spend? I spent all my money on a rebuild for my 340, specs: K.B. hypereutectics, stock X heads with 3 angle valve job, hughes HE3844AL, headers, edel. 600cfm carb. going in a 70' Dart with 4speed/4.30's. Will it perform okay with stock intake, heads, and small carb with this cam? future plans do include head porting, performer rpm, and a 750 or 800 carb. I'm 19 and in college, so i'm just getting into mopars. THANKS!!
p.s. my ultimate goal is to get in the 12's

I cant say what the RPM range of the maifolds are. However, to increase the power output of exhayst manifolds, there is a trick to do.
If you take time to do porting type work to them. Smooth out the inside. Gasket match the manifold to the head. Use exhaust pipe of 2 1/2 inch in size.
Same size pipe for headers.
As far as carb, I think a 600 is to small with the current cam combo. A smaller cam for now would be better. Stock HP or a step above type cam would work with the current combo. Excpt the gears. There to steep. That gear ratio would be good for later. Something like 3.23-3.55 with the stock height tire would be great.
The rest of your post seems on target.

Thumbs up

I run the Hughs 3844 cam in my 73 Dart Sport 340, and it is a very agressive cam. Hughs told me a true 10.5 compression is minimum. I had to shave my 915 J heads .050 to get the cc's down to 63, and with the TRW forged replacment pistons I am using I come out to 10.5 to 1. Hughs also recommonded a 700-750 Holley double pumper carb. I home ported my J heads, am running a used Offy Port-O-Sonic intake, 1 5/8" cheapo
headers, 727 auto with a Dynamic converter, 4.56 gears and 28 X9-15 MT's have run a 12.45 @ 108mph with only 3 1/4 mile passes. With some more chassis mods,
Roller Rockers and a change to Hooker 1 3/4" headers I hope to run 12.0's this summer. Good luck with your project and I wouldn't worry about using your stock intake for awhile, because I've seen super stock Dusters and Darts run in the 11's with a stock AVS or TQ carb and intake. Kevin.

You could always notch the plenum devider, suppose to give you 500 more RPM's. 2 inches long, 1 inch deep. Stock LD340 stuff.
