Question

Here is the situation, my bro and I are converting his 67 /6 cuda to a 318. we have all critical parts and hdwr including the the trans. but we are not sure if the original radiator will sufficiently cool the 318. both tranny's are auto 904's. This is not a high performance motor. just a plain jane 86 318 with its original tranny from my 5th Ave. The 67 rad is practically new and very clean inside. would a cooler therm help? The rad stays in the 5th Ave cause its getting a 375hp 360 with an A-833 4sp!

WOW! Cool 5th ave. Talk about a sleeper! (He he he he) If the rad. is as good as you say, it might do the job. Hot days might be your bane.

i would think the radiator would be just fine, if, you have a fan shroud.

Default radiator troubles

I would think the stocker should work fine with a mild 318. Like stated above, you really ought to have a fan shroud and hot days may be troublesome. If you have troubles use some water wetter stuff such as "40 Below", it dropped the temp in my car about 10 degrees; it used to run 10-15 degrees over thermostat temp now it runs at thermostat temp all the time except on really hot days (100 degrees plus).

Cool

If the car came with a/c you shouldn't have much of a problem with it. The non a/c /6 cars normally have smaller radiators than the a/c equipped ones. I used a /6 radiator from an a/c car in my V8 powered A-body for a few years and it ran nice and cool. I made the switch to a V8 radiator only because the outlet was in a better location and it looked more like a factory install.

p.s. I love sleepers, best of luck with yours. It ought to be lots of fun. Keep us posted on it.
