an economical way to make rocker stands for w-5s.The cheapist i've found them so far is $229.00 @ mancini. My idea is to buy a set of the econo w-2 billet rocker hold downs and use them by mounting them under the shaft instead of on top and then use the hold downs i already have.On the one on each side that oils the rocker shaft i would use a file to make grove for the oil to flow through to the shaft.I already have crane gold race rocker set for my standard a-heads.I set them on top of the w-5s and the bolt holes line up perfect, the exhaust rockewr also lines up perfect. The standdard heads bolt down with 5/16th bolts and the W-5s and W-2s use 3/8 bolts, but the standard gold race shafts have 3/8 hole so the oil can flow past the ones that oil the rockers. So what i have in mind is to enlarge the second from the front driver side and the second from the rear on the passanger side to 7/16 only on the bottom of the shaft for oil flow. Now all i need to know is the thickness of the the hold downs/billet and order from P.A.W the W-2/W-5 intake rocker arms.Has anyone out there done this before. I have a set of econo W2 hold downs in my shop. Do you want me to record the demensions for you? I remember them as being blue with counter sunk holes for allen type hold down bolts. I also think that when turned over, they will be too short by about 1/2 an inch.

I was under the impression that the W5 had the same offset as the Race W2 heads. Meanning, the shaft mount holes are drilled off-center moving the rocker arms away from the valves. The Crane Gold Race Rockers come with a center drilled shaft to fit production heads and econo W2 heads, but not W2 or W5.

Rocker Shaft Hold Down P5249713, if turned over, will be taller than the aluminum W2/W5 rocker shaft stand.

.555 compared to .225

The hold downs will need to be milled down if you plan on using them as stands.

It looks to me that a machine shop would have no problem making a custom set of stands in a matter of minutes.
