Question

My '74 Charger has strange rubber isolation mounts at the rear. The 6 ply leaf spring is wrapped in rubber where the U-bolts connect the spring to the axle tube.
Does anyone know if this will adversly affect the handling at a dirt track? Also, could this set-up be changed to the previous metal to metal arrangements found on older B bodies without a lot of hassles? I would appreciate any comments.

Get rid of the rubber and remount it, unless you're overly concerned about a nice soft ride while racing. Really, though, it just introduces unwanted movement and flex that can make handling a little less predictable. It should be no big deal to get it out and remount the U bolts.

The Mopar Circle track book says to do away with the rubber isolators. My father ran them last year on a b-body in a bomber class and kicked butt. He even had the rubber isolators on the k-frame on the front end. So based on that experience, at that level of racing, I don't think it made a difference. Maybe I'd be surprised if I took them out.

Yeah, funny thing is I've seen that happen, too. A couple of guys with bomber Cordobas and Diplomats really ran good with all that stuff intact. I'd tell 'em they ought to take it out, but they'd be too lazy and end up quick anyway.

I think that it does make a difference, even in a bomber style car. I'd have to say it would just make a quick car for the class even faster.
