Allright, anyone use a cam similar to this?
Better yet, anybody got some good recipes for street 383s? something in the 450 HP area? that is w/o stroking it. I know 351C can do it so 383s should be able to do it no prob.

Fury boy

I've probably talked about this article a million times, but here it goes again. Check out the October edition of Mopar Muscle for 2000. They did a performance rebuild on a 400 with good results.

Standard 0.30 bore on the block. Pistons were KB-240 hyperutectics. Cam was a Comp Cams XE268H which specs are:

268/280 in/ex duration
224/230 duration @ 0.050-Inch
.477-Inch/.480-Inch Lift
110* Centerline
Cam was installed at 106* Centerline

The heads were stock #346 pieces with over size 2.14/1.81 valves with a porting and polishing. They ordered a k kit so it came with the heavy duty springs, lifters, and timing chain. Crane roller rockers with adjustable push rods were also installed along with a Milodon HV oil pump and a holley #12-831 fuel pump. For max hp they used a Mopar Performance M1 single plane intake and a rebuilt big block TQ. The end result was 410hp and 441tq. Now thats with a mild cam and stock iron heads! The combo for my 383 is similair to this and I'll let everyone know how it works this summer!

I had this mag but my uncle stole it from me last winter!ARGGGH! Didn't they also tryu the PErfromer RPM manifold? I called Jegs about the K kits and they said they only had the 270H, That is why I am asking. I think I would run the XE274 if they make the Kit. I am still a long ways off though.

Fury boy,

In the article they first used a Weiand Action Plus manifold with a 750 dp Holley. The idea was to use a near stock manifold with common carburator for ease of use. They ran 400hp with 420tq. The next test was the Mopar Performance M1 with rebuilt TQ which resulted in the numbers from the last post. I don't know if they tried a test with the Performer RPM yet, but I also would be interested. I could fax you the article if you are really interested. Just email me at mu442@yahoo.com if you are interested.

I got the XE268H k-kit from my engine builder. I don't know what catalog he ordered it from unless he got it straight from Comp Cams. I think every cam they have can come as a K-kit.
