I have a 440 in a 72 Cuda. The car sometimes stumbles on acceleration. If I do not flutter the accelerator from a stop it MAY stall. It has backfired through the carb when I was trying to set it up. When I give it throttle, it will keep the rpms up to about 1500 for an extended period of time before going back down to 900 (idle) Should I switch to the lighter springs for the Carb? TIMING?
The engine is a 440 with stock MP pistons, 915 heads, and eldebrock torker intake and eldebrock 750 (manul choke) carb. It has a MP 509 cam and and automatic transmission. Accel Super coil and chrome box. Good wires and plugs. Runs with about 7 inches of Vacuum. It runs really good when I get the revs up but is there anything I can do about this problem? I finally got is running good by changing the fuel pump (had a holley high flow that was too much pressure) Thanks for any help. Rob www.geocities.com/heartland/1032 |

Move the rod in the accel. pump arm closer to the pivot point. This will give you more fuel from the accel. pump. If this doesn't cure it,try a larger squirter size.If none are available, you can drill the old one out with a decimal drill about .004-.005 larger than what you have now.
