I have a 71 charger se with a 318 -2 barrell. When it gets wet and cold the car will not start. It sounds like it might, but to no avail. Once the wet weather moves on, she starts up. I have replaced everything in the ignition system but the cap.I will be replacing that soon, but I would like to do it when it is wet out, so I could see if that is the problem. Replacing it when the weather is dry still leaves question to whether it will start. Assuming that is not the problem, what could it be? Please help?

Thumbs up

I've had the same problem in the past. It ended up being the cap had a small crack that allowed the moisture in.
Good Luck !!!

Thumbs up Cap it!

It's definately the cap. My pickup used to do that after going through a car wash.
I drove our 4wd into work last summer and while in town I went splashing through some mud and water, then stopped at a gas station. It took me about 10 mins to get it started! I had to yank the cap off and use a paper towel to wipe out what very little moisture was in it. Once it did start it ran like crap(spittering and sputtering) until I got home and put a different cap on it.
