hello everybody, I am looking for some help and advice concerning my wheels and tires.
I own a 1973 charger in really good condition , it is my every day drive I am looking to lower her profile some , and wanted to put some new tire and wheel , I would like the rear end to be a little wider than the front end .
this is my first Mopar and classic , I am pretty much clueless as far as what I need so what better place to ask that moparchat.com
I love that charger and want it to look aggressive but not trashy.

thanks to everybody who'll help.

Default charger

I own a 74 charger SE and It has 295/60 15's on the front and 295/50 R15's on the back. With keystone classics all the way around. I don't drive mine much in the winter or during the wet season. If you are going to drive it all year long in Montana I would suggest aluminum wheels and skinnier tires. The chrome wheels look good but will rust quickly in the snow and salt. The problem with wide tires is they are meant for hot dry smooth pavement. If you want buy a cheap set of skinny wheels and tires for the winter and some fat low profile tires and chrome wheels for the summer. The advantage to aluminum wheels is that they dont rust and they are lighter. If you do go with aluminum make sure when they balace the tires they put the wheel weights on the inside of the wheel, the lead weights and the aluminum don't get along (electrolitist) and the lead will ruin your wheels. Also I would buy the coated wheels they are easier to clean and they are shiner.

I personally love factory steel rally wheels, they won't make your car look trashy.Finding a wide set 8"+ will be the hard part, and will probably cost as much as mags.

All I can tell you is, take your time! There are literally thousands of used tire and wheel sets for sale out there. Especially with 4 1/2" pattern like on your Charger. Keep your eyes peeled for pic's of cars in your year range with different mags. You'll find some. Buying new wheels is just too darn expensive. The Weld Pro Stars I fell in love with are about $150.00 each, with front tires, tubes, and slicks, I was facing over a thousand bucks!!! I found a set at a swap meet with good rubber (29-9.5-15's) for $350.00!!! On my Duster, which is 95% strip, the front tires will never wear out, and the slicks should last a season easy! Good things come to those who wait...
Happy Moparing!

I have a set of KELLY CHARGER tires on my ride. The fact that it has the word CJHARER in raised white lettering raises some eyebrows. Sorry no pics right now. Later

The biggest that will fit are 15 x 10's with 255/60's. Dont lower the front too much. About an inch is all you can go. If it gets too far out of factory spec you will create a bump steer effect that is both undesirable and dangerous to drive. I've got 5 of these things and one race car. They are fun, but heavy cars.
