Was wondering if the new 100,000 mile anti freeze could be used in an older engine if it didnt contain any regular antifreeze, such as in a rebuild. I know the big diesels (cat, cummins) each have ther own long life coolant but they cant be interchanged between manufactures because of seal and o-ring problems. Was wondering if the same might be true of the old and new mopars?

I'm no expert but, I don't see why not. If its used without mixing it with the older antifreeze like you said.
The gaskets should be fine. I can't think of any "O" rings in the engine to worry about. |

diesel antifreeze is mostly diffrent from the regular stuff because it has a diffrent silica content (lower I think), I believe this is mostly an anticorrosive, but abrasive.
The only problem that might occur with running long life coolant in an older engine is that it may not have the same corrosion inhibiting capabilities. Newer engines are more likely to use more corrosion resistant alloys, and may need less of the anticorrosive content found in regular coolants. This is pretty speculative, but might be worth checking out. |
