I have a 58 Sartoga with a 354 using a Auto-Lite distributor. I bought a Pertonix Ignitor system with coil, to convert over.
They don't make a kit for my year or motor. So I ordered a kit for the earliest mopar they had listed which was 61 - 66 all, single point distributors, hopeing it still might fit. It doesnt. I could probably make it fit with a bit of customizing of the Pertonix adapter plate, but if I do, and it doest work, obviously I can't send it back. So I want to change distributors and get rid of the auto-lite. My question is does anybody know the measurement from the bottom of the distributor housing to the end of the distributor shaft on the small blocks? Mine is 4 1/4" on my 354. I would imagine a 318/340/360 distributor would be the same but want to make sure before I buy a old one to stick the Pertronix in. I got mine from Summit Racing for the ignitor kit and 40K volt ignitor coil was 100 bucks. Thanks... |

As far as I know you have to cut the small block distibuter shaft shorter to fit the early hemi. I have heard of people doing that. If I were you I would use electronic ignition. I can check on length tomorrow.
If its long just get the conversion kit and shorten the shaft. |
