Question

A while back my Clarion POS amp shorted out and fried my Alpine head unit. It was the CDA-7939, was the one model under the flagship model when I got it in 96, and costed me about 650 big ones. The head unit still powers up, but it wont take in a cd and it also doesnt put out a sound signal through either the Ai Net cable OR the RCA outputs!! So my question is, Has anyone send their Alpine in to the Alpine service center? How were they on price? does anyone know if the symptoms mine has is even worth trying to fix or bother sending it to them for?

I really want a new Alpine head unit that plays MP3 files from a cd with the Ai Net to use with my ERA-G230 graphic EQ that still works, but its too expensive, Id rather get this one fixed for now until I can afford the other one.

Whatever shop you send it to should only do a diagnostic on you head unit. They should be able to give you a reasonable flat rate diagnostic fee. Once the problems have been diagnosed the will tell you how much more the repair will cost. If you choose to have it repaired then the diagnostic fee should be put against the total repair bill.

My biggest concern is should I even bother spending the money to ship it to Alpine to have it fixed, Im in Texas and I think their located in like Canada somewhere. If its a lost cause already I dont want to be out tons of cash shipping a pile of sh*t to them only to find out its gonna be like 300 bucks to replace all the guts and the only good thing it has is the light bulbs and chassis!! LOL

Look for a local service center. I would have to think Alpine has authorized service centers around you somewhere. If they do not then you are probably talking about $100 or more just to get your current head unit checked out.

Hope this helps
