What headers are good for a 440. They are going in an E-body. DO any allow good acces to the spark plugs?
I am thinking about Hooker. Flow Tech. Hedman Others??? Anyone happy with their headers? I don't think TTI is available in Canada. BEST SOURCE OF SUPPLY IN ONTARIO? My old one are leaking plus the flanges were never straight. thanks Rob www.geocities.com/heartland/1032 |

I seen your web site. I'm sorry about your son. I was in a serious car wreck also. If I had my seatbelt on I would have left behind my 5 month old daughter (at the time) and my wife. I wasn't driving. In the back seat in an Acura. The orther car crushed in the Acura 18 inches into the seat where I was sitting. I survived for a reason. I'm sure your son Michael also survived for a reason. Hang in there. As for the headers. I've always found that there is always some trouble in accessing some plugs. On my C-body /w super comps, the hardest plugs are. #7,8,6. Not impossible but a struggle to get to. Better let the engine completely cool down! I like the super comps, but then again those are the only ones I know I used. I have used other 'used' headers and never knew the name of them. I would reccommend getting the headers ceramic coated. The primary tube sizes depend really on the engine output. If you got some serious power. 2 inch primaries would work. If it is more street driven try 1 7/8 primaries. The MoPar engines book, also has recommendations. I don't have mine ready avail. but if U want I'll go get it out and let ya know what they say. good luck.

Hedmans get my vote. I think they are better quality than Hooker and the fit is great. Just my opinion though.

I have 1 7/8" Super Comps on 440 Challenger and they work very well. Plug access is, in my opinion, an oxymoron in this situation. You put in good plugs, gap them properly, and stay at least 8" away from them until all is cool. Best is to claim you have a sore hand or something and talk a buddy into doing it for you - haven't tried it but it should work once. By the way, another challenge will be putting the darn things on in the first place!

I like Dougs headers. Or should i say Doug Thorley. They are 14 gauge tubing with 3/8" flanges. They come chrome plated or you can order them painted. Part #151

i run cheap hedmans(100.00/summit) on my "E" (440 challenger)they dont leak and they clear power steering + an easy install. run the
same headers on my "68 440 charger, 3 years now....same as new! there are better but not for the money. later christian. |

Just look at the area where the starter is and tell you know of a better header than a hooker comp

Depending on how big a header you want...2" primaries, I use the CPPA ones, took one small ding in the passengers side & small ding around the #5 spark plug. With this big of header your best bet is using JACOBS ceramic plug boots. They are expensive about $220 a set, but a life time warranty. Great quality, had them 3 years an NO problems.

..The last 2 sets of Hedman Headers I've seen Have been pure junk. Get the Hooker Headers, not much more $ and fit good, last good...
