I read on a differnt board that a 1990-1995 360 started will fit. This was on a truck.

The starter off my 96 ram will fit my 440 with one change. Pop the plastic cap off of the wire connections and remove the wiring adaptors and it will fit.

I used a 88-89 Dodge Dakota mini-starter off of a 3.9. (Nippendenso) Worked great, no clearance problems at all. I did have to grind a little of the casting flash off the block.

All the starters mentioned, even from a 2.2 I think, will fit. At least from 3.9 & bigger gas engines. However, there may be some clearance problems with the 'small' starters. It may not fit properly to the 'half moon' in the block where the BB's starter goes. A little grinding off the block or from the starter housing cures this problem. It's not very common but because casting irregularities can happen. I have had to do it in two engines. And while the new starters (there are at least two different models, a small from the late 80's to early 90's and an even smaller after that) are lighter and smaller than the traditional mopar starters, they are also different shape. In a traditional mopar starter the motor is close to the block and the solenoid is on the outer side; the new starters have this the other way round, this makes them bigger at the place where an old starters solenoid is. So, if you have it close to the exhaust, be prepared to have clearance problems with the new 'mini' starter. While thy're smaller and lighter than the old ones, they're also at least twice as powerful and I highly recommend them to any older mopar.

So these new style starters would fit a 340, while being lighter and more powerful?

Thanks guys, It sounds like i will be in business when it comes to a new style starter. I talked to my local motor repair shop and they no longer repair chrysler starters. So I might as will get a new style one and be all set for another 25 years.

For a SB it should be a bolt on, no interferences, just remove the cable adapter if there is one.
